About a year ago, I started working with some new team members. One of them was very interested in refining her professional skills, and we agreed to work on this together.
I've been working since 1985 and have made communication and collaboration centerpieces of my career. So, this was an area where I could provide insight and support in a significant way.
Learning can be as much about the student as the teacher, and in this case I found an eager learner. She was an attentive listener, open to feedback (even when it was about things she needed to work on). As we spent more time together, the conversation became more open and she grew comfortable being vulnerable, which enabled us to have deep discussions and develop approaches to strengthen her skills even more.
I love the way she let me in. Through that process, I learned as well.
