Week 7: The Diplomatic Colleague

Sometimes things can go wrong at work. When that happens, the first thing I like to do is try and fix the problem. But not everybody rolls that way. Some people are more apt to point fingers and look to place blame, rather than focus on solutions.

Recently, I began working with someone who is a role model of diplomacy and reasonableness. Yes, she wants to understand what went wrong, but her primary focus is on how we can work together as partners to make things better.

She gently and professionally pushes back when people get caught in the blame game. She looks for new ways for our teams to communicate and be more effective. She is a role model of fairness, and her approach makes everyone more open to working together.

I've never sent a colleague a letter at home, to say thank you for being a reasonable person...until today.
