Week 27: A Great Receptionist

I don't have a desk anymore. Our office moved to a new location, and people who aren't there every day no longer have a permanent desk.
Many companies that try this approach have frustrated employees -- people who come to the office a couple of times a week, but struggle to find a place to sit. Fortunately for me, we have a top-notch receptionist who set up a great system to make things smooth and easy.
I let her know when I'm coming, and she reserves a spot for me. This ensures that I know where I'm going and don't waste time looking around for a desk -- or worse, sitting at a desk I thought was free and then the person shows up, hovering and aggravated.
This might seem like a small thing, but it's a time saver and it avoids creating conflict. Other receptionists might not bother with this, and leave everyone to fend for themselves. Each time I get to the office, she welcomes me and confirms exactly where I need to go.
She's a true professional who can put herself in other people's shoes.
