I have a colleague in the UK who is always trying to think of new solutions our company can offer to clients. When she has an idea that could be relevant for the US, she "rings me up" to talk about it.

Recently, she developed a new way for companies to measure how they are perceived by their employees in specific areas that are important for a company's growth. She launched the program in England first, and the results were so interesting and valuable that they were presented at the Houses of Parliament!

Now we are working on a US version together. Rather than telling me what to do, my colleague seeks my input, asking about how best to tailor the program here.

This might seem like a small thing, but trust me, it's not. Many companies have a centralized approach where a solution is created in one office and then forced on everyone around the world without any opportunity to make changes for the local market. Not so with my colleague. She doesn't care about it being her way...she wants it to be the best way, whatever that turns out to be! For that, she has my ongoing gratitude.
