2020: Note 39 - The Super Analyst

For the past month or so, I have been working on a large, complex and sensitive data analysis project. There is one other person in the company working on it as well -- a recent grad who is based in the UK.

And what a grad he is! This man is an analysis superstar. He is fast and accurate in the data he puts together. He looks at the numbers, understands what they mean, and makes insightful connections and recommendations. He also has a good aesthetic sense and makes charts that are easy to follow and visually appealing.

In my work around inclusion, we sometimes talk about bias related to age. This most commonly comes up with older employees concerned that they won't be valued or that they will be pushed aside because they are more expensive than less experienced workers. But it also comes up with younger workers who fear they may not be respected or given meaty opportunities.

My work with this young man is a good example of why you can't judge a book by its cover (or cover letter). He is just as valuable on this project as a more experienced colleague would be, and I am grateful he is my partner and collaborator on this project.
